Use in teaching

Two paths

You can practise yourself: examine, advise, moderate, give difficult feedback. Or you prepare a scenario for your students that they work through on their own later. The chatbot in the pre-chat asks about this point first, because the whole design of the scenario depends on it.

Oral examinations

Students go through their examination calmly and then hear how their answers came across. Teachers rehearse their own part: the opening, the follow-up question after a thin answer, dealing with exam nerves. In the summer of 2025 a real examination at the Centre for University Teaching was prepared with the simulator.

Office hours and counselling

A counterpart who is annoyed, reticent or in a hurry makes a conversation demanding. That exact attitude can be set in the scenario and played through several times, until your own reaction sits well.

Feedback and difficult conversations

Criticism of a term paper, a suspicion of cheating, a rejection: conversations that occur rarely during term and then under pressure. In the practice room you can try out a phrasing several times and compare the effect.

Committees and meetings

Chairing a meeting, defending a motion, taking up objections: this too is a conversation with clear roles. For appointment committees and similar bodies, the typical counterpositions can be stored in the scenario.

Language practice

Subject conversations in a foreign language need repetition. The practice partner keeps going patiently, even on the third attempt, and the evaluation shows where it faltered.

Study with students

In January 2026, 276 participants used the simulator as part of a study run by the Centre for University Teaching. The results feed into further development.

Examination with a second examiner

A mode with two examiners in the same conversation is being worked on. As soon as it is available, we will describe here how an examination with a second examiner can be practised. Status of this statement: September 2026.
